Washington (D.C.) St. John's sophomore tight end Devante Brooks talks about his recent offer, and…
Brooks Gives the Latest
“This spring was pretty exciting, I definitely didn’t expect everything to happen all at once,” said Brooks, who plays both defensive end and tight end. “I am just going to keep working hard though, it doesn’t really effect my mindset.”
This summer Brooks has been honing his skills at several camps, including stops at Maryland, Virginia and Ohio State. The Cadets standout visited College Park for Maryland’s camp in the beginning of July, and he came away feeling good about his hometown team.
“It was a great experience. I hadn’t seen the coaches in a while so it was great to see them again, and work with them,” said Brooks, who is primarily being recruited as a tight end. “I got to spend a lot of time with coach [John] Dunn. I like him a lot he was really coaching everyone up and he was really excited to see me again. He is really outgoing and funny, and I am really comfortable working with him.”
The Terps were the first program to offer Brooks, and that is something the Cadets standout won’t soon forget.
“I am definitely going to try to make a few of their games this year, it will be fun to watch them face off against some of the Big Ten powerhouses,” Brooks said. “I am excited to see how they do in the Big Ten.”
Brooks recently camped at Ohio State, and he enjoyed the competition, as well as, working with the Buckeyes staff.
“Ohio State camp was pretty good, the coaches were really welcoming and overall it was just a great competition,” Brooks said. “I really enjoyed getting to work with the coaches there and I definitely learned a lot from them.”
The dual threat athlete has also been hearing from Penn State, and he recently returned to State College for a short visit.
“It was great, I had fun up there talking to the coaches,” Brooks said. “I have already been there so I just talked to the coaches and watched one of my teammates go through camp.”
Brooks said he hopes to get to several schools this fall as his recruitment continues to heat up.
“I want to try to visit Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Penn State if I can,” Brooks said. “It will all really depend on my schedule.”
