Von drills long, arching, NBA-range three-pointers as well as in-your-face mid-range pull-ups off the dribble or pass,” said Brick Oettinger of Recruiter’s Handbook…is a consensus top-25 player nationally…PrepStars.com has him ranked as the sixth best high school player in the nation…FutureStars and HoopscoopOnline.com have him eighth, PrepSpotlight.com has him at ninth, Rivals100.com has him ranked 18th, and ESPN.com has him coming in at No. 27 is one of four members making up the consensus No. 1 recruiting class in the nation of the players entering college for the 2003-04 season…ranked second on the list of Top Five Small Forwards…only the seventh McDonald’s High School All-American to play at Florida State…joins current Seminole Anthony Richardson (2001) along with Irving Thomas (1985), Douglas Edwards (1989), LaMarr Greer (1994), Corey Louis (1994) and Randell Jackson (1995) as McDonald’s All-Americans who have worn the garnet and gold…scored eight points on three-of-eight shooting from the field and pulled down three rebounds in the McDonald’s All-American game which was played at Gund Arena in Cleveland, Ohio…his eight points came in only 15 minutes of play with two coming on a ferocious dunk after driving the baseline…was matched up defensively against LeBron James at times during the game…finished second to LeBron James in the McDonald’s All-American slam-dunk contest…finished as the runner-up by only four points to James…earned All-America third-team honors from USA Today Newspaper following his senior season…one of only three players of the 15 selected to the USA Today’s first three teams who will play in the ACC…Wafer is joined by only Luol Deng of Duke and Chris Paul of Wake Forest in the nation’s top conference this season…played in the Capital Classic in Washington, D.C. following his senior season…started alongside LeBron James and scored seven points in 22 minutes of playing time…one of four current Seminoles to have played in the Capital Classic – Anthony Richardson and Adam Waleskowski in 2001 and Alexander Johnson in 2002. |
