Knight keeps Maryland on his list

2010 safety prospect Rashad Knight talks to TSR's Josh Vitale about his thoughts on Maryland.

After getting burned all game long by Riley Skinner and the Wake Forest receivers, it seems pretty obvious that the Terrapins need some help in the secondary.

Trinity Christian Academy cornerback Rashad Knight could definitely be of help to the Terps, but he will not be easy to get. The three-star prospect from Florida has already received offers from Michigan, Illinois, Ole Miss, and Wake Forest, among other schools.

“We're having a good season so far,” said Knight, “I have 3 interceptions, a rushing touchdown, a kickoff return touchdown, and over 20 tackles. I also returned one of the interceptions 80 yards for a touchdown.”

But, even with all of the attention he's received, Knight has Maryland firmly on his list.

“I haven't visited it yet, because I'm still sorting my list out. I want to take a good look at Maryland though. They have a good program.”

Maryland does fit the general profile of what Knight wants in a school; so becoming a Terrapin is definitely an option for him.

“I'm looking to have a relationship with the coaches,” said Knight about his decision, “I'm also looking at the depth chart, to see if I'll get playing time.”

These are things that Maryland can offer Knight, as the coaching staff has already started a relationship with him, and their depth chart is screaming for help on defense. One thing that might not be in Maryland's favor, however, is their struggles this season.

“A team's record won't affect my decision, but I do play close attention. It really depends on whether the coach that was recruiting me leaves or not.”

If he does choose Maryland, Knight thinks he could come in and make an impact as a freshman.

“I could definitely contribute immediately. I think one of my strengths is that I'm a natural leader, and I have good speed.”

There are things that Knight would like to improve on, and he believes that Maryland's coaching staff could help him.

“I talked to one of the coaches at Maryland, but I can't remember his name. I think they could help me improve my technique and being more fluent in the hips.”

So, while Knight has received offers from some big schools so far in his recruitment, he is keeping the University of Maryland on his list.

“They have a good program. I've always liked Maryland.”
