Durham Hillside running back Gary Douglas holds six scholarship offers and he has camped at three in…

"We came up, Gary, me and the head coach for a little visit. The campus was great, the coaching staff was great. Maryland was the best possible scenario," said Douglas mentor and Hillside assistant coach Antonio King. "We loved the staff."
Said Douglas: "I really liked everything. I like the playing time – I won't have to redshirt as a freshman. The campus was bigger than I thought it would be. It was really big. They had a nice weight room, everything looked new, and the players were all real cool."
Douglas is somewhat of a hidden gem whose name should emerge during the upcoming season. He's a young rising senior who hasn't turned 17 yet, and he's put on 13 pounds of muscle –from 170 pounds to 183 – since last season. He has great speed and vision, and is likely the first of two running backs Maryland will take in this class.
"They liked that I was young and I have a lot of developing to do," Douglas said.
Said King: "I could see him being six feet, 200 10 or 215 pounds, still running a 4.4 forty."
Douglas had double-digit verbal offers, including written offers from Cal, N.C. State and Marshall. But credit assistant coach Ray Rychleski with getting in good with Douglas early this summer, and recruiting coordinator Dave Sollazzo and head coach Ralph Friedgen with sealing the deal during Douglas' visit.
Now, the question becomes, who will the Terps take to fill the other running back spot? The top two priorities: Lamaar Thomas and Mike Cox. We'll keep you posted on both.
