The University of Maryland picked up its 2007 first football commitment this afternoon in the form of 6-foot-7, 325-pound Hoboken (NJ) HS lineman Bearthur Johnson.

“It happened this afternoon,” said Hoboken coach Lou Taglieri. “He just feels very comfortable with the school, with Coach Friedgen and Coach Sollazzo who is recruiting him. They were in early on him and he’s been down to visit there a few times.”

Johnson plays on both the offensive and defensive lines for his high school team and could play on either side of the ball in college.
