Each week, we ask the Scout.com hoops recruiting team to ruminate on a specific question.
Dorsey Rates Terps Trip a '10'
"Just how good the players have it over there," Dorsey said in reflecting on the trip.
From the coaches to the campus, to the facilities and academics, to the uniforms and so on, the trip opened his eyes a lot.
"Just how nice the coaches are, and just how nice the campus is," he said after touring around with the Maryland staff. "Everything is nice about that program right now."
'Nice' would be adding an elite lead guard for the future, and Dorsey said his visit "was a 10" on a scale of 1-10. He said the only other one that could compare would be Virginia Tech, which he also recently visited, along with VCU.
Next up, he has trips planned to Nebraska and Minnesota this weekend, and he indicated "August or September" for a decision date, and added he is not feeling pressure to commit to a school sooner than later.
He said the Terps' staff jumped out to him on the visit, and they explained what they like about him and how they would envision him if he chose Maryland.
"They said they like how I prepare and play, and how productive I am at all times with both my defense and my offensive ability, too. And Coach [Mark] Turgeon said he has seen me really get better and grow as a player," Dorsey said.
Dorsey is an up-tempo, high-energy lead guard at Paul VI.
"I like to get the ball up-court as quickly as possible, and get it to the scorers," Dorsey said. "I don't like to be denied in pushing the ball up the floor."
But he said he was still surprised how well the visit went last week, and added he wants to complete the next two campus trips so he can make a full comparison before deciding "hopefully after the July open period," he said.
"Really, again, just how good the guys have it up there if they are willing to put in the work. It's really going to pay off in the future and in the Big Ten if they want it," Dorsey said. "They're [Maryland] at the top right now."
Dorsey is working out daily at local spots like Bowie State and Clinton Christian, among others.
"Just getting up more shots, just getting in more ball-handling. All the time, every day," Dorsey said.
