Defense Gets All the 'Goree'
"They beat us what seven years in row or something like that. That is not what Maryland football is all about," said Goree, who from Bowie, Maryland. "We went out there with a chip on our shoulder and we had to represent for our state and our school."
For the Terps, there was a lot at stake on Saturday. A number of high profile recruits attended the game, along with over 50,000 fans, the game was nationally televised on ESPNU, and who could forget the new uniforms. To add fuel to the fire, Maryland lost seven-straight games to West Virginia. The stage was set, and Maryland passed the test with flying colors (literally and figuratively, did you see those helmets?)
"Basically we just had to stop the run and if they cant get the run going they can't get anything else going because that is where it all starts," Goree said. "The D-line did an awesome job, they got through the holes and they made it easy for the linebackers to make a couple more tackles."
The Terps are 4-0 heading into their bye-week, but they aren't letting the win or their record get to their head. When Goree was asked how long he'd let himself enjoy Saturday's win, he responded, "maybe for a couple of days."
Maryland picked apart West Virginia red-shirt quarterback Ford Childress on Saturday, sacking him twice and holding him to just 62 passing yards including two interceptions.
Goree talks about the defensive performance and his game-day experience in the video below.
