Howard Talks Hometown Offer
The 6-foot-4, 180-pound Howard is already attracting offers from a number of the top college programs, but was especially excited about getting an offer from his hometown team.
"I grew up watching both of Georgetown and Maryland so it was definitely exciting to get an offer from both of them," Franklin said. "Every offer I have gotten is kind of special, but those two definitely have a kind of special place in my heart
Howard also talked about attending a few Maryland games back in Cole Field House.
"I went to one game when they [Maryland] played Duke when I was nine or 10 with my dad and cousin," Howard said. "I liked Juan Dixon and Steve Blake. Those were really two of my favorite players, they are both great guards."
Howard transferred from Gonzaga (Washington, D.C.) after his freshman year to Paul VI Catholic (Fairfax, Va) as a sophomore. Howard averaged 10 points, three assists and six rebounds and he said he biggest strength is his versatility.
"On defense, I can either check one of the smaller guards or match up with some of the bigger players," Howard said. "On offense, I can run the point, play the wing or post up down low."
Howard visited College Park back in March to watch some of his friends play in the Public School State Championships at the Comcast Center and he is somewhat familiar with Maryland's campus.
"I haven't really been around the whole campus, I have just been around the gym mostly," Howard said. "The facility is nice, I like the gym, it's pretty big and when there a lot of people in for big games, it gets pretty packed."
It might be early in the process but Howard has a few specifics he is looking for in his future program.
"The first thing I will look for is a family environment, that everyone loves each other," Howard said. "Then I want to see the coaches development skills and how they plan on developing me on and off the court.
Howard added, "I also want a great academic school so I can get prepared for life after basketball, that is really important."
Howard said out of the schools that have offered, he does not have any true favorites at this point and is just getting stared in the whole recruiting process.
"Right now everyone is about the same," Howard said. "I haven't really looked too much into a lot of the schools or taken too many visits."
However, Howard said one school is sticking out to him, although they have yet to offer.
"I would love to get a Kentucky offer," Howard said. "They are one of my favorite schools right now."
Howard still has a lot of time before he needs to make a decision but don't expect him to drag the process out too long.
"I would like to get it done the summer before my senior year," Howard said. "If that doesn't happen, I will just do it when it feels right."
