Up next in the commitment capsule series is Clemson's top-rated offensive addition, four-star guard…
Looking ahead to 2014: QB
The Clemson staff addressed the need to add a quarterback in 2014 very early on in the process when offensive coordinator Chad Morris handed out an offer to Gainesville High School's Deshaun Watson.
Coming off a strong showing at the Dabo Swinney Football Camp, Watson received his first offer, about two months before his sophomore season.
Watson committed to Clemson on the 2012 national signing day.
Since the offer and pledge, a number of schools have jumped in with offers to the No. 14 quarterback in the class of 2014, including Ohio State, Auburn, Florida State, LSU and Georgia.
And Watson has kept his options open, just incase Morris opts to move elsewhere for a head coaching job.
In his most recent interview with Scout.com, Watson said his commitment to Clemson was "solid."
"I like everything about Clemson," he said. "I like the fans, the players, the coaches, the area, and I just like everything. I feel at home when I am there and that is important too."
To help their pitch to Watson, the Clemson coaches promised to not sign a quarterback in the 2013 class. The plans looked like they were going to change when news broke of Morgan Roberts' transfer.
Asiantii Woulard took an official visit to Clemson, but ended up signing with UCLA. Joshua Dobbs was also an option, but only briefly. He signed with Tennessee after being committed to Arizona State.
There are other options in 2014 for Clemson if Watson looks to head elsewhere. But the Tigers' coaching staff has yet to offer another quarterback, and it will continue to be that way as long as Watson is on board.
Southern Alamance High School [Graham, N.C.] athlete Johnathan Lloyd could play a number of different positions at the college level. Quarterback could be one of them. For now, Clemson would take him as a defensive back or a wide receiver.
Scout.com classifies Lloyd as a three-star safety.
Another potential option would be West Mecklenburg High School's [Charlotte, N.C.] Jalan McClendon, who holds offers from East Carolina, North Carolina and Wake Forest.
