Junior Linebacker visits Maryland

Junior middle linebacker Santonio Graham talks about MD visit

Santonio Graham, a junior middle linebacker from Bishop O'Connell High School (Arlington, Va.), made a trip to Byrd Stadium a couple weeks ago to see Maryland host the Florida State Seminoles.

Although not an official visit, Graham says it was an overall good experience.

“I like Maryland in general. I felt like it was a nice school,” he said. “I wanted to give it a try and see what it was like.”

Graham calls Maryland a “home school” because of its close proximity to his hometown in Virginia. Although Graham says the Terps coaching staff has not yet reached out to him, he certainly has them on his radar.

“I would like to go to Maryland,” Graham said. “They have a good program.”

In terms of Maryland's switch to the Big Ten Conference a couple weeks ago, Graham says it wouldn't sway his decision either way. He likes both the Big Ten and the ACC, and feels they are both strong conferences.

The 6-foot-1, 220-pound linebacker says his biggest strength is stopping the run. He tries to pattern his game after NFL players like Derrick Johnson and Von Miller.

Although the linebacker says he had an overall good season at Bishop O'Connell, Graham feels he could have played much better. He wants his future program to be one that will allow him to improve all facets of his game.

“Somewhere that is going to help me develop more to be a complete player, a complete linebacker, and a leader,” Graham said of his ideal school. Perhaps College Park has what he's looking for.
