Projected Position on Depth Chart: Starting wide receiver
The rundown: A fifth-year senior who saw action in all 12 games last season, starting five of them. An all-around receiver with physicalness, speed and blocking skills, Boykins was a big contributor on last year's squad, finishing third on the team in receiving yards (430) and receptions (37). He had two big games last season against Temple and Virginia. He caught a career-high eight passes and had 76 yards receiving, then his career high in a 38-7 loss against Temple. A few weeks later in a 31-13 loss to Virginia, Boykins had six catches for a new career-high 105 receiving yards. A contributor on special teams as well, Boykins led the team with seven special teams tackles.
Expectations for 2012: Boykins is listed as the starting “A” receiver in front of Levern Jacobs, James Bowman and Stefon Diggs on the preseason depth chart and will probably open the season as a starting receiver with Kevin Dorsey, assuming he is healthy in time. But with stiff competition at the receiver position, Boykins will need to compete to hold on to the starting role with the likes of Diggs and Nigel King, two highly-touted recruits. He may get the start early on because of his experience, but it wouldn't be surprising if Boykins takes a backup role towards the middle of the season. He should still be a contributor in the passing game and should remain a solid blocker and special teams contributor regardless of whether he is a starter or a backup
