Ross Looking to Impress Terps

Pius X HS senior DuBois Ross is hoping to earn an offer from the Terps after impressive camp.

When Maryland recruiting coordinator John Dunn made the trip to Pius X High School (Bangor, Pa.) late this spring to inform a select few of the 2011 District XI Class A championship team of the upcoming Terps' prospect camps this summer, DuBois Ross saw a golden opportunity. The 2013 standout wasted no time getting to College Park, taking Dunn's invitation and making his way down to campus the weekend of June 16th for the first camp of the summer.

“I wanted to go to the first one [camp] because the first impression is the best,” said Ross. “So, I came down and I think I did pretty well.”

The 6-foot, 180-pound receiver and defensive back possesses devilish speed, posting a personal best 4.49 40-yard dash time at Temple earlier this spring, something he has learned to utilize on both sides of the ball.

And while the Terps' are eyeing Ross as a defensive back, the rising senior has no real preference as to which position he'd like to play at the next level.

“Lately, I've been getting recruited as a wide receiver for all these colleges I've been getting offers from, but I'd go to college for either position,” he said. “Wherever the college that fits me well wants me to play.”

As for his experience at Maryland, Ross was very impressed. “Well, I've already been there before with my friend so I knew the facilities and the campus were going to be great,” said Ross. “But the camp just topped it all off.”

Ross has remained in contact with Coach Dunn ever since that spring visit, talking on the phone with the recruiting coordinator once a week.

The dual-threat recruit currently holds offers from Yale, Buffalo, UMass, Monmouth and Holy Cross and is hearing from the likes of Syracuse, Temple and Rutgers among others.

After camping in College Park however, the Terps are now on Ross' wish list. “It's a very good fit for me, I think,” he said of the program. “So hopefully I get a look from them.”
