Defensive Back No Longer A Terp

Redshirt sophomore defensive back Avery Graham has decided not to return to Maryland.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Head football coach Randy Edsall announced Wednesday that defensive back Avery Graham has quit the football team and will be given his unconditional release if he decides to transfer to another institution. “I’m disappointed that Avery has decided to leave us, but he didn’t feel he was going to be a starter in the fall,” Edsall said. “Avery was a hard worker during his time here and we wish him well.” Graham, a redshirt junior this coming fall, was listed as a backup at one of the cornerback spots on the depth chart entering the spring. He posted 17 tackles in 13 career games as a reserve linebacker and cornerback, as well as a special-teams player. The native of Clarksburg, Md., served as a backup at the Star position (hybrid outside linebacker/safety) for the first six games of 2011. He injured his knee against Clemson (Oct. 15) and missed the rest of the year. Graham played in seven games as a reserve cornerback in 2010, missing six with a groin injury.
