COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Sophomore Alyssa Thomas of the seventh-ranked Maryland women's basketball ball team was named to the John R. Wooden Midseason Top 20 list released this weekend. She is one of just six underclassmen to be in the hunt for the most prestigious honor in college basketball.

Thomas is the ACC's leading scorer with her 17.3 points per game and 19.3 points per contest in league games. The forward from Harrisburg, Pa. is third in the ACC with her free throw percentage of .850, No. 7 in the league in rebounds (7.7), and No. 8 in assist/turnover ratio (1.6).

Thomas is one of four players from the ACC to be named to the list. She is joined by Miami's Shenise Johnson and Riquna Williams and Duke's Elizabeth Williams.

Created in 1976, the John R. Wooden Award is the most prestigious individual honor in college basketball. It is bestowed upon the nation's best player at an institution of higher education who has proven to his or her university that he or she is making progress toward graduation and maintaining a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA.

The Wooden Award All American Team, consisting of the nation's top 10 players, will be announced the week before the Final Four.

The 36th annual Wooden Award ceremony will honor the Men's and Women's Wooden Award winners. It will include the presentation of the Wooden Award All American Teams and the Legends of Coaching Award, and will take place the weekend of April 9-11, 2012.

Next, the Terrapins will play host to Boston College (5-15, 0-7) Thursday, Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. in Comcast Center. For tickets to Thursday's matchup, log on to the Terrapin Ticket Office online at umterps.com or call 1-800-IM-A-TERP.
