I was very excited to attend my first Maryland football game on Saturday. The atmosphere at the game was unbelievable. Now that students are there, the campus has a very different feel, since all of my other visits were before the start of class. The high school I attend has a lot of tradition built around it, especially the football program. We get huge crowds at our games, but this was more than I expected. From the crowd, to the band, to the fireworks, I am looking forward to being a part of what Coach Edsall is trying to build. Saturday night lights are a lot brighter than Friday night lights and I look forward to being apart of it.
My team also had an exciting game Friday night. We played the Gateway Gators; they've been ranked as high as 4th in the W.P.I.A.L. AAAA by the Post Gazette. The game was broadcast on ROOT Sports TV which adds a little more excitement to the game. My uncle Rick Hills from South Carolina was able to watch my game live. He played football at Wando High School as a defensive tackle. He is always calling to give great advice, his most recent advice was don't leave any regrets on the field and play every game like it's your last.
We had 2 TD in the first half and right before half time they scored their only TD against us. It was a defensive battle after that. The coach needed my legs this game so I kept it on the ground for the most part. When I played youth football I ran the ball a lot as a QB, but since I have been at Central Catholic I have worked on throwing from the pocket. I guess we can catch teams off guard when I run. Most teams are not expecting that since we have an excellent running back, Damion Jones Moore. We won 13-7. This was one of 3 games this season the starters were able to play the whole game since we usually pull starters once we score 35 points.
