Thoughts from our game Friday night- Penn Hills is a top team in the WPIAL with 3 D1 recruits, Corey Jones-Pitt commit, Chaz Whittaker has 4 offers including Pitt,, Treyvon Hester has 4 offers also. All 3 players were on a 7 on 7 all-star team this spring with me. They have a lot of talent and all three have my respect on and off the field, we even joked after the game. Penn Hills came in this game looking for the win. Last year we went down 20-0 in the 3rd quarter before we came back with a 35-20 victory. I'm sure that was on everyone's mind before the game. Things were a little tense in the beginning when Corey was moving the ball on the ground; he is very elusive and hard to tackle. Anthony Nixon our wide receiver was under double coverage by Corey and Chaz the whole game. Anthony Nixon another Maryland recruit joked after the game and said “If I need to be the decoy to win games so be it. I'll do whatever it takes to win”. I believe Antony shares the team's philosophy; we are a balance team with many weapons, and putting up stats is not our goal, whatever it takes to beat a team is our goal. Our starting offense usually plays anywhere from a 1 _ quarter s to 3 quarters because our coach feels strongly about not running the score up on other teams. We play as a team and I believe that is why we have been so successful.
This is the summary and stats from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette.
“Central Catholic, No. 1 in the Post-Gazette's PIAA Class AAAA rankings, left no doubt, races to leads of 23-0 at halftime and 36-0 after three quarters. Jones-Moore scored twice in the opening period, on a 72-yard run and an 11-yard pass from Perry Hills, then had a 24-yard scoring run in the third quarter. Hills, who was 9 of 11 for 100 yards, also had a 29-yard touchdown run.”
Finally my thought about Maryland's game against Towson this Saturday-First off the uniform combination the captains picked this week probably was my favorite so far. Maryland played tough and fought till the end. Everyone wants to judge you when you're out on the field and critique every play, what people do not understand is what goes into to every play, when it is successful or when it fails. I look forward to next week's game. I root just as hard for Maryland as I do my own team, Central Catholic. I also look forward to playing for Maryland and Coach Edsall.
